Nau mai, haere mai - welcome to our Parish!

Here at St. Joseph’s, we joyfully welcome all who seek to grow in faith, hope, and love. Rooted in prayer and strengthened by the Sacraments, our parish family strives to follow Christ, serve one another, and share God’s love with our wider community. We are glad you are here and invite you to talk with us on this journey of faith.

Everyone is welcome at St. Joseph’s - whether you’re new to the area, returning to the practice of the faith, or simply curious, there’s a place for you here!

A Community Radiating the Light of Christ

What’s New?

Consultation Regarding the Future of Our Presbytery

We would like to consult with our parish and school community regarding the future of the presbytery and invite your feedback as we consider the next steps for this important property.

The consultation process will begin on Thursday 21 May and conclude on Sunday 7 June.

Below you will find an attached statement from our Parish Finance Chairperson, along with a consultation document. We encourage you to take the time to read through these letters and then complete the Google Form also linked below.

Alternatively, paper feedback forms will be available at the church this weekend and can be placed in the suggestion box located at the back of the church.

If you would like to speak further with someone about this project, our Parish Finance Chairperson, Harry Bennik, and Parish Council Chairperson, Suzie Blatch, will be available after Mass this Sunday and the following Sunday. They would be very happy to have a friendly conversation and answer any questions you may have.

We sincerely appreciate your time, support, and feedback throughout this consultation process.

Change to Mass Time & Weekday Reconciliation Opportunity

Throughout the season of Lent, our parish offered Wednesday Mass at 7pm instead of 5:30pm. Since this new Mass time was quite popular and there was a great deal of positive feedback given regarding this change, Wednesday Mass will continue to be held at 7pm each week going forward. The sacrament of Reconciliation will also be available before the Mass from 6:15-6:45pm.

Our 5:30pm Monday Mass will now be held at 9:30am instead for the next few months.

Everyone is welcome to attend!

Welcome to Our New Catholics!

Easter Vigil was a special blessing for St. Joseph’s Parish this year, as six candidates from our Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA) programme were received into the Catholic Church.

We warmly congratulate them and give thanks to God for this beautiful step in their faith journey. Please keep them in your prayers as they continue to grow in faith and discipleship.

These joyful occasions reflect a wider hope in the Church. A recent article from Radio New Zealand highlights encouraging signs of a quiet renewal of the Catholic faith in Christchurch, with growing interest - especially among young people seeking deeper meaning.

These stories remind us that the Holy Spirit continues to draw people to Christ and His Church.
